Wait, are you here by accident??? It is ok, you can just click your back button and I will never know. OR, take a peak at my little adventure. Hmmm – is it sad I am calling writing my adventure???
You are sticking around? Well, hello, then. My name is Nici and I am a lot of things (wife, business woman, friend, crafter, reader, daughter, favorite auntie) and writer is an adjective I have wanted to add to that list.
I love to read. Mostly my book shelf is filled with fiction and my five-star ratings on goodreads.com are usually reserved for engrossing historical fiction. Oh, I should probably admit that I am now a kindle owner so my book shelf is becoming more and more virtual. Writing a book has always been in the back of mind. One – it sounds dreamy – sitting in my pj’s with a hot cup of coffee while typing away in my cozy office. Two – I haven’t believed everyone can make a living doing something they love, but maybe this is my chance.
I am part of a book club, although I use that designation loosely. Our “club” started in 2001 and, although it started with great literary intentions (or at least actual book related discussions), our discussions mostly center around love, life, and laughter. What I love, besides being with such wonderful women monthly, is that I get to read a variety of books I may not have found myself.
I work in a very non-creative job that involves excel spread sheets and bulleted emails. After over 10 years in business, I worry I have lost any creative writing skills I may have had…maybe I should start with short stories??? I am married to a wonderful and supportive man and in that dream of above, where I sit at the computer typing an amazing story with my cup of coffee, my labradoodle pup is warming my feet.
My goal with this blog is to chronicle my attempt to write a novel. I like the idea of being accountable to someone, even if it ends up just being my mom, who will probably be my only blog follower. I plan to document my process, struggles (I foresee over use of commas and parenthesis an issue), and maybe some tidbits for feedback (I know – feedback probably just from my mom). So, thanks (mom) for reading About Me.
I like the part of “being accountable to someone”…its true. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I started my blog, but now it forces… FORCES me to write something – off ed- if you will, in more a less a weekly fashion. In the beginning I thought it was taking away from my real work, editing and writing my manuscript. But now I realize, my little bloggy blog keeps me grounded in a way. It is also very, VERY nice to hear positive feedback and comments from complete strangers on my short stories (which is what my blog is all about). So…with that… I think you’ll find this blog thing is good, and hopefully the push you needed to write that dang book of yours! Good luck!
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to ocmment. I still have to adjust to this blogging thing – my brain doesn’t stop thinking about what I wrote or what I will write about next…and it seems to happen most when I lay down to try to go to sleep! And i like my sleep! I think I will be purchasing a night stand notebook to put down this random late night thoughts. Hopefully this will allow my brain to rest, and therefore fall asleep. It has been a fun week though and I look forward to it every night.
